The Penitent (1998)

The sculpture was crafted after a visit by the
artist to Seville, Spain, in 1998. The annual procession of penitents in their
traditional costumes are captured in a masked figure that opens to reveal scenes of the
good rising to heaven and the bad falling to hell. Red pine and a small amount of MDF
are the materials crafted in this haunting work.
